While leadership initially proposed a generic "Chat-to-Query" feature, I successfully championed a discovery phase to validate the true user need, steering the roadmap away from reactive chat. I designed Proactive AI Insights and Configurable Workspaces—transforming a system of overwhelming noise into a dashboard of actionable intelligence.

From Repetitive Queries to Proactive and Actionable AI Insights

Problem

Large Datasets and Repetitive Queries Lead to Inaction

Tracworx provides rich asset related data to users. Users were expected to understand the value of the data, and to make queries and generate insights based on the data. However, the new data was overwhelming. They did not know what they were looking for.

Decision

From "Chat-to-query" suggestion to discovery and team alignment

The ambition of leadership was to introduce an LLM style interface, with chat to query capabilities. However, I recommended that we took some time to carry out a Discovery phase. I proved that "chat-to-query" approach would not solve the core issue. Enabling easy data segregation and providing users with actionable insights was the correct path forward.

Outcome

Easy to configure Workspaces and Actionable AI Insights

As the platform grew, users needed more personalised, shareable insights and better administrative control. Introducing AI-driven recommendations, configurable workspaces, updated navigation, and self-serve admin tools set the foundation for the next generation of the product.

Unlocked Value and Future-Proofing the Platform

The most critical outcome was a strategic course correction: Tracworx avoided investing months of engineering resources into a low-value 'Chat' interface. Instead, we secured alignment on a high-impact roadmap that balances immediate execution with long-term vision. The 'AI Insights' feature set is now fully designed and scoped, providing a clear backlog for the coming quarters. Development is currently underway, transitioning the product toward a proactive, agentic future.
